Hiking to the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano crater
rincon de la vieja national parkClimb the main crater of Rincón de la Vieja Volcano on this challenging hike. The trail leads you through different types of vegetation and trees to the summit at a height of about 5,925 feet (1,806 meters) with astounding views. On very clear days, you can see the Caribbean Sea, the great Nicaraguan Lake, and the Pacific Ocean! Located close to the top are the “Jilguero” lagoon and the highest point, called the “Von Seebach”.

Las Pailas Trail
The “Las Pailas” (the Cauldrons) Trail is a loop of about 2.5 miles (3.5 km) featuring the best views of the active Rincón de la Vieja Volcano without climbing the main crater.
Here you can find a great variety of vegetation and trees, and the Park is home to mammals like raccoons, white-nosed coatis, Central American agoutis, armadillos, tapirs and three species of monkeys, as well as plenty of exotic tropical birds. The most impressive and spectacular features of the National Park are its volcanic elements. Steam and sulphur pour out of yellow and rust-colored ground at natural fumaroles. Clay and coffee-colored pools bubble with boiling hot volcanic water. Smooth grey volcanic mud froths and explodes upward at the “Cauldrons”, for which this section of the Park is named. You’ll also find beautiful little rushing rivers and small waterfalls crisscrossing the trails.

Horse Back Riding to Rincon de la ViejaRide our calm and friendly ranch horses on scenic forest trails to the Rincón de la Vieja National Park main gate. From there, we’ll go by foot on the “Las Pailas” (the Cauldrons) Trail – a loop of about 2.5 miles (3.5 km) with excellent views all along the trail. Your ride will take you through our working horse and cattle ranch of Hacienda Guachipelín and our conservation area of tropical dry forest that we are reforesting with endangered native tree species.

Horse Back Riding Rincon de la Vieja National ParkWe’ll go by horseback on scenic forest trails to the captivating Victoria Waterfall, which plunges 115 feet (35 meters) into the Colorado River. Its surrounding canyon has a unique vegetation and topography. At the end of the trail, we leave the horses for a short, steep descent down to the river. The picturesque pool at the waterfall’s base is perfect for a cooling swim in the crystal clear water.

Chorreas Watefall at Hacienda Guachipelin Adventure ParkThe Chorreras Waterfall meets with the Río Blanco (White River), and together they form a natural, clear, sky blue pool. It is an excellent place for a refreshing dip, or just to enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We’ll take a leisurely horseback ride on our friendly ranch horses there and back.

Oropendula Nature Hiking at Hacienda Guachipelin Adventure ParkCombine the beauty of the Oropéndola Waterfall with the memorable experience of volcanic mud pools and hot springs at our Symbiosis Spa. We’ll go by horseback on scenic forest trails to the Oropéndola Waterfall, spilling an impressive 82 feet (25 meters) to a sparkling turquoise pool in a beautiful vegetated canyon of Rio Blanco (White River). After the waterfall, we’ll ride to the Symbiosis Spa on the Hacienda Guachipelín Ranch by the Colorado River, to enjoy a natural sauna, volcanic mud pots and thermal water pools.
