Rainy Season In Costa Rica no problem, bring a pncho

When to Come
Costa Rica offers two seasons, the wet or green season and the dry season. The green season lasts from May through November, when it usually rains a part of most days. The dry season occurs between late December and April. The Caribbean coast basically stays green all year and Guanacaste Province in the northwest portion of the country is popular for being drier. Rates for many hotels are less in the green season.

e190Getting There
Going to the Pacific Ocean Beaches? Most people fly into The Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, located in Liberia (LIR), which is serviced by all major airlines, from the United States that include American, Continental, Delta and Miami Air. Air Canada, Air Transat, CanJet and Sunwing fly here from Canada. San Jose (SJO) is serviced by even more airlines so check with us and we’ll give you all the latest information.

What to Pack
What you need to pack depends heavily on your planned activities. Shorts and bathing suits are appropriate for the beach. If you plan on hiking in the rain forest, bring good hiking boots, lightweight pants, a long-sleeve shirt and hat. Regardless of the time of year, you are liable to encounter rain. Pack a light rain jacket with a hood and/or an umbrella, as you prefer. Pack some nice casual clothes for dinner. Leave formal clothes, suits and expensive jewelry at home, to avoid tempting thieves. Bring a camera, binoculars, bug spray, sun tan lotion and sunglasses. The electricity is the same as in the United States, so all of your electric appliances will work without adapters.

Getting Around
Costa Rica boasts an impressive domestic transportation system. Nature’s Air and Sansa, both carbon-neutral airlines, crisscross the country relatively inexpensively to a variety of small airports. The bus system is very dependable, comfortable and inexpensive. Taxis abound throughout Costa Rica. All the major car rental companies are located here, and driving yourself, especially during the day, brings few problems or you can be privately escorted by an English speaking naturalist guide in a modern air conditioned vehicle.

What to Do
The three most popular activities in Costa Rica are enjoying a beach, hiking in the rain forest and exploring a volcano. Enjoy snorkeling, scuba diving, surf boarding, fishing, sailing and kayaking on the ocean. Hike in either a rain forest or a cloud forest and fly above the canopy on a zip line, go river rafting or walk across hanging bridges to get a bird’s-eye view of the forest. Visit a volcano and learn more about the Pacific Rim of Fire of which Costa Rica is a part.
