What to expect:

Some of the best waves right outside your doorstep when staying at Tamarindo Diria.  So you can surf early morning before your dives and every afternoon when you return from diving — just how cool is that?!!. But if you want to try a different set of waves, Langosta Beach is just a short distance from the town of Tamarindo. After your two dive days, you will spend two awesome days trekking to find gnarly waves to the North and South, and as though that wasn’t enough, you will do it aboard ATVs guided by a local surfer who knows the waves.  Pura Vida!

The Catalina Islands offer some of the best diving in Costa Rica and are famous for the tremendous amounts of marine life. Schooling fish on every dive site, white tip sharks, spotted eagle rays, southern sting rays and small critters like sea horses and harlequin clown shrimp. Add all that to the big stuff like whale sharks, manta rays, humpback whales, orcas, cow nose rays, pilot whales and you have world class diving and a life time of memories.

Now that you have had fun at the beach, you can experience the beauty of the rainforest and the thrill of nature as you raft down the rapids of Costa Rica’s Balsa River.  Last night in the capital of Costa Rica — San Jose.

Itinerary

Costa Rica Dive, Surf & Rainforest Package

Day 1 (Arrival / Liberia Airport):  Fly into Liberia* International Airport (flight not included). Private transfer with our meet-and-greet service to Tamarindo Diria Beach Hotel where your vacation will begin. Relax near the pool or on provided beach chaise lounges. Drink an Imperial or some of the local Anejo rum at the hotel bar or get a bite to eat at the hotel restaurant. If you didn’t bring your board, it would be a great time to pick up a rental so you can surf the early morning waves. The sun rises early in Costa Rica!  If you are diving, Call the dive shop the day you arrive and make arrangements for any rental gear you may need or special requests or general information you want them to have. (No Meals included this day)
*If you fly into San Jose we can still arrange transfers, but it is almost four hours to resort, and there will be an additional expense.

Days 2-3: Enjoy a morning surf at daylight if you are an early riser.  If not, sleep in and then enjoy a little breakfast before you get ready to go diving.  You just need to stroll down the beach to meet the dive boat. You will dive the exciting Catalina Islands around 35 minutes from the beach. In the evening the town of Tamarindo is a happening spot. Here you will find an eclectic mix of people, shops and things to do. Mingle with the locals and other tourists. (B)

Day 4 Today you will hop on your ATV and head SOUTH. A local guide will take you to surf haunts and show you waves you wouldn’t find on your own on this 7 hour trek. Take some money with you to enjoy some lunch mid-day. You will be ready for a cold cerveza by the time you get back to Tamarindo today. That’s okay, vacations are supposed to be filled to the max! (B)

Day 5  Okay, time to fire up the ATV again, but this morning you are headed NORTH. Your local surf guide will  turn you on to some new waves. This trip is a four-hour excursion so make the waves as soon as you get there and enjoy all the action. You still might have time to ride a wave or two in Tamarindo in front of the hotel at the end of the day and pack up for your trip to Arenal and the lush green landscape of the rainforest that awaits.  Look how much incredible waves you’ve been able to hit in only two day surfing in Costa Rica! (B)

Day 6 (Departure): Today, you travel overland to Arenal Volcano. The van will stop along the way where you can purchase snacks or a meal and beverage. Be sure to have your camera ready, there are often Scarlet Macaws flying around and roosting in the trees at this spot.  Tonight you will be picked up at 5:45 pm and dropped off at Tabacon where you will enjoy a buffet dinner and relax in the thermal waters of the world famous Tabacon Hot Springs & Spa. Van will return to pick you up at 10 pm unless you make other arrangements. (B,D)

Day 7 Check out from your Arenal hotel.  Make sure to pack a small backpack with a change of clothes and any items you might want easily accessible for the drive to San Jose after lunch. Your rafting guides will provide commentary about the country and point out fields of papaya, yucca and other local crops. After you arrive at the bank of the river where the rafts are “put in” you will receive instructions from your river guides and meet the safety kayaker. The rafting team’s driver will stay with your luggage and other items.  After a bit of time to practice the rafting commands, your guide will push off and soon you will be navigating the Class II – III white water rapids.  You will take a break to enjoy fresh fruits and water before taking off again.  Once your trip is over, you will change and have a delicious hot typical lunch.  A van will meet you at the lunch spot and take you on to San Jose. Dinner is on your own tonight.  Overnight in San Jose at Best Western Irazu — a virtual oasis in the midst of bustling San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. (B, L)

Day 8 Enjoy a light breakfast and then arrange for a taxi or the hotel’s airport shuttle to take you to the San Jose airport for your trip home. (B)
You should be checked out and ready to leave your hotel three and 1/2 hours before your scheduled flight. You won’t soon forget your guides or all of your wonderful experiences in Costa Rica.  Pura Vida!
