Your Tortuguero Jungle Pacuare River Adventure Vacation Package
begins in San Jose. Then moves on toTortuguero for two nights, on to the exciting Rio Pacuare for three nights before returning to San Jose.

What to expect:

Jungle adventure takes you via boat on Tortuguero canals, guided hikes to experience nature and Tortuguero village before rafting Class III-IV rapids Pacuare River where you can enjoy waterfalls, rainforest hikes and canopy.

Summary:
A seven day, six night jungle and river package with your first and last night in in San Jose, the capitol city of Costa Rica. Two nights at Mawamba Lodge in Tortuguero and two nights at Rios Tropicales Lodge on the Pacuare River

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive – Shuttle from San Jose Int’l Airport (SJO) to San Jose hotel
Overnight Adventure Inn or Best Western Irazu, San Jose

Day 2
6:15 AM – PICK UP at Best Western Irazu
Breakfast at Río Danta Restaurant in Guápiles.
This private facility with beautiful tropical gardens for you to discover.
Depart from Siquirres for Cabo Blanco where you will board the Boat to Tortuguero
Mawamba Lodge at approximately 1 PM Arrive. Enjoy Lunch at Poolside Restaurant
Afternoon Guided Hiking tour – Tortuguero Village where you can learn how local residents of Tortuguero live.
Dinner at Beach entrance restaurant.
Overnight Mawamba Lodge, Tortuguero

Day 3
6 AM. – Tortuguero Canal Boat Tour. Enjoy the rich rainforest and witness the awakening or its vast array of wildlife. Coffee is readily available before departing on the tour.
Return for breakfast at the lodge.
AM Hike with guide on Lodge trails to “Mawamba Park” which includes the butterfly farms, frog farm and garden, iguana farm, bio-digestor and gardens.
Lunch at the pool restaurant.
Boat tour to different canal in Tortuguero
Dinner at the pool restaurant.
Optional night tours can be arranged after arrival. (Night walk on private trail or Jul-Sept)

Day 4
Breakfast at Mawamba Lodge.
9 AM Return boat ride to Caño Blanco dock.
Late morning Arrival to Caño Blanco. Board the bus for Rio Tropicales Pacuare River Operations Center where lunch will be served.
After lunch depart for private rafting put-in on the Pacuare River in San Martin.
Your professional guides will load your gear into dry bags, prepare all the rafting equipment, give you complete safety and paddle instruction.
Class III rapids welcome you to the world-class rafting of the Rio Pacuare’s. You will raft deep into the heart of primary rainforest. The course is shelter for many animals, including sloths, river otters and anteaters, plus an incredible variety of birds—toucans, egrets, herons, kingfishers, sunbirds, and trogons.
Arrive at the unique Rios Tropicales Lodge. Spend the afternoon relaxing, hiking or soaking in the waterfall and pools. Nestled in the jungle on the 2,000-acre private reserve, the Lodge offers you all the comforts you need in “Cabecar Indian” style bungalows.

Day 5
Breakfast at Rios Tropicales Lodge. Don’t worry about wake-up time. The beauty of the light through the forest, the sound of toucans and the smell of coffee will get you going. This day is designed to enjoy the Lodge and its natural surroundings so you can enjoy Rainforest canopy tours, hikes, relaxing and more!
The Canopy Tour has four distinctive platforms blend in seamlessly with the natural surroundings, giving you an amazing perspective of life in the roof of the jungle.
You will be able to enjoy the canopy tomorrow morning, too, so if you want to take one of the longer hike, you can without missing the canopy tour.
As well as the canopy tour you can choose a variety of hikes – a 4-5 hour hike high into the Pacuare Reserve; a 2-3 hour hike to nearby waterfalls and pools, or short walks near the Lodge. The spacious property offers limitless places to get away from it all and just relax and enjoy nature.

OPTIONAL TOUR can be arranged for days 5 & 6.   Hike to the nearby Bajo Del Tigre community, with a chance to learn from local community members about their sustainable farming and environmental responsibility. Your bilingual river guide will accompany you and interpret along the tour. Access to this tour is completely managed by the Bajo Tigre Community and the tour fee goes 100% to fund their community needs. Experience a side of the Pacuare few people know!  Or try the canyoning or new 3 cable canopy tour.

Day 7
This morning, enjoy the four-platform canopy tour and hike on a trail high above the rainforest canopy for a sweeping view of the river corridor below.
After the hike, you will pack up and load the rafts in preparation for paddling down the Pacuare gorge, past gushing waterfalls, serene pools and pounding rapids.
A snack stop by the riverside lets you explore more waterfalls and natural waterslides.
An adrenaline-packed afternoon running rapids like Double Drop, Upper Huacas, Lower Huacas, Cimarron, Dos Montañas and many more, will have your blood pumping.
You will take out near the town of Siquirres where transportation will be at the take-out, where you will go to the Operations Center just a few miles up the road. After a hearty hot lunch. Showers, changing rooms, cold and hot drinks, snacks, a bar, and souvenirs are all available.
3 PM depart for San Jose and enjoy views of Braulio Carrillo National Park and Irazu Volcano along the way. Arrive approximately 5-6 PM depending on traffic.

What to Bring

  • Space on the raft is limited. It is important not to bring anything extra and make multiple use of items.
  • Long light pants
  • Long sleeved shirt
  • Bathing Suit
  • Hat, Visor or cap,
  • Rubber-soled shoes that can get wet (tevas, tennis shoes, river shoes, booties or similar)
  • Second Pair of Shoes so your others can dry
  • Sweater or Sweatshirt (for cool evenings), windbreaker
  • Waterproof sunscreen lotion (SPF 15 or higher)
  • Repellent
  • Other items you might like to bring: Refillable water bottle, flashlight, rain ponch, extra batteries for your electronic devices, and binoculars
